399671 Practical Bioinformatics (2007-2008)

Practical Bioinformatics is a course consisting of the following five modules: programming for biologists, R language, Biodatabases, Microarray data analysis and Gene mapping. 13.8.2007 Main page for course Practical Bioinformatics (this page) is open. First module of the course, Programming for Biologists, will be held in the I period (10.9.-25.10.2007).

Practical Bioinformatics approaches various bio-computational analysis methods essential in life sciences from a practical point of view. The course consists of five modules (I-V; 2-3 cr each) organized in five different periods. Each module consists of approximately 28 hours of lectures and practical exercises in a computer class. Additionally, the modules will include homework and exam.

The course is tailored for undergraduate and graduate students studing biosciences (biology, biochemistry, medicine etc.) and assumes no previous background in bioinformatics or programming. Basic computer skills are required. The course is organized at the Biomedicum Helsinki (Haartmaninkatu 8). A maximum of 25 students will be accepted for the course.

Each module can be taken individually, but the participation in all the modules is highly recommended.

Scope

Each module will yield either 2 or 3 credits.
