Cinco: Collaborative and Interoperable Computing

Positions and theses topics

Post-doc, PhD candidate and MSc researcher positions

The CINCO group (Collaborative and Interoperable Computing group) at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki works on a federation architecture layer that has emerged top of the existing data communication and distributed computing platforms. The purpose of this layer is to provide federated management facilities for dynamic collaborations or communities involving autonomous services. The key services include global facilities for service discovery and selection, eContract negotiation and control, and control of the community lifecycle. Essential issues include trust, reputation and privacy management on the open service market, and creating enforcement channels for legislative and other regulatory systems.

This kind of infrastructure essentially improves the quality of collaboration in global or dynamic communities. It support the use of agile methods for software creation and system composition, in such a way that a wide range of interoperability aspects is automatically controlled. Furthermore, it supports user-centric concepts in the management of collaborations, thus enabling new type of business scenarios between clients, enterprises and governmental bodies.

We will hire new personel at earliest at the beginning of 2012.

It should be noted that MSc level teaching in the NODES group is in English, although thesis work, essays and other individual work is naturally performed in the national languages as well.
