Call for Applications

Graduate school in computational biology, bioinformatics, and biometry (ComBi) is accepting applications for graduate studies.

Two PhD student positions (about euros 1600-2500/Month) for four years are available for students of the University of Helsinki. Also persons who will intend to enroll as PhD students of the University of Helsinki are eligible for applying. The application deadline is September 30th 2009 for students starting in 2010.

The focus of the school is on developing computational, mathematical, and statistical methods and models for biological sciences.

The school is organized as a closely collaborating network of research groups with expertise in computer science, statistics and applied mathematics, and in a variety of biological sciences such as biochemistry, molecular and structural biology, biotechnology, genetics, ecology, geography, and epidemiology.

Students holding a master's degree primarily in computer science, statistics, or (applied) mathematics are eligible for admission, but a background in natural sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics) or in technical sciences is also possible if the applicant has sufficient methodological knowledge. Also students close to master's degree can apply for admission.
