Computers hang up during shutdown

The HP desktop computers available in the classrooms BK107, B221 and C221 (Linkki room) frequently hang up during shutdown under Linux. This happens just before the computer is supposed to restart or turn off so no major consequences arise. Currently we don't have a fix for this problem but a future BIOS or Linux kernel upgrade might solve it. Meanwhile, the workaround is to press down the power button for a few seconds until the computer turns off and then turn on the computer normally.

.ICEauthority problem

When you login to a Department's Linux host having classroom configuration from the console you sometimes get a warning "Could not update .ICEauthority".  This is caused by a bug in Linux NFSv4 server implementation, which makes a system call sequence like this fail. This will be later fixed by upgrading the kernel on csfs NFS server. Until the fix is implemented, just ignore the warning.
