Only print what you need, on both sides and/or many
pages on one paper.
With the Ghostview program (gv in Linux), you
can choose which pages to print from the postscript file.
You can print two-sided with option –t in Linux
mpage. With the mpage command, you can also specify the number of
pages to print on each paper. As an example, to print two pages on
one paper, two-sided, on printer ps2, write: mpage
-Pps2 -2 -t file.ps . However, mpage does not
always work, see postscript problems.
Do not print large black-and-white jobs on a colour
laser, because they are more expensive to use. You can print
coloured files on a black-and-white printer, if the colours are not
necessary.
Look at a preview of the document you are about to
print.
Do not use the printer for previews; instead, use the
preview feature of the program. Output into the postscript file and
open it with Ghostview to check the final format.
If you are printing but something goes wrong, please
remove your job from the printer queue.
In Linux, you can remove your job with the command
lprm. As an example, remove all your own jobs from the
printer queue to ps4 with the command lprm –Pps4 - .
In Windows, remove your job by clicking the following:
Start -> Settings -> Printers. Double click the correct
printer. Choose the job(s) to remove. Document -> Cancel.
You can cancel your job at the last minute with the
‘cancel job’ button on the printer (not available on
all printers).
Fetch your document(s).
Always pick up your job from the printer. Put the
cover paper in the recycling bin. Arrange jobs that have not been
picked up close to the printer on a table or shelf, in overlapping
layers so that the username on each cover paper is visible.
