From 1 January 2010, the department council has convened instead of the steering committee.

The head of the department is Professor Esko Ukkonen and the Vice-Head is Professor Jyrki Kivinen.

The management system of the department has been described in full in the Quality Manual chapter System of management. 

Department council

The department council comprises three professors, the representatives of the department staff, and three students. The members of the department council are elected every three years. The department council has a secretary who makes sure that the minutes of the meetings are distributed.

Professor Esko Ukkonen is the chair of the department council ad the head of the department. .
