Letter of reference and certificate of service
Letter of reference
Each employee has the right to receive a letter of reference. You can ask for a letter of reference at the end of employment or earlier from Financial and Human Resources Secretary Pauliina Pajunen (office D238) or your immediate superior.
On the employee's request, the letter of reference must include the reason for the end of employment and an evaluation of work skills and conduct. These evaluations will not be included unless requested.
If a former employee asks for a letter of reference over 10 years after the end of employment, the university is not obliged to issue it if it would cause undue inconvenience. The same goes for re-issues of lost or destroyed letters of reference.
Certificate of service
You can apply to the personnel service team at the campus service centres for a certificate of service from the University of Helsinki.
The certificate of service will include your service data from the University of Helsinki and the time period that the contract or appointment has lasted, as well as longer leaves of absence or other leaves.
