The University of Helsinki is appraising Recruitby.net, a video recruiting tool. The goal is to facilitate and boost interaction between the recruiter and job seekers. The recruiter records the interview questions with a web camera and sends it to the candidates, who similarly answer the questions using a web camera. Videoed responses give a more comprehensive picture of the candidates than an application alone.

Recruiters can evaluate the responses with their colleagues and invite the best applicants for a face-to-face interview. Another benefit of video interviews is the opportunity to check the applicants’ language skills before inviting them for a personal interview. The use of video interviews portrays the University as a modern employer and allows both the recruiter and applicant to participate in the first-round interview when it best suits their schedules, irrespective of the country or city.
