Description:

INVITATION

The University of Helsinki has the honour of inviting you to the seminar

THE ZEPPELIN IN ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH

on Friday, 31 May 2013, at the Helsinki University Department of Physics in Kumpula.

A zeppelin with a built-in atmospheric research laboratory has arrived in Finland.

The equipment and flight of the zeppelin has been financed by the European Community and the University of Helsinki, and thus the leadership of the EC Science department and representatives of the Finnish Ministry of Education will attend the seminar.

The zeppelin, nearly one hundred metres long, will make daily research trips during its stay in Finland, so it will not be brought to Kumpula. The seminar audience will be shown presentations and video footage of the zeppelin, its measuring equipment, and some research findings.

Please see below for the programme of the seminar. The address of the Helsinki University Department of Physics is Gustaf Hällströmin katu 2a (Physicum in Kumpula). For driving instructions and a map, please see under ‘Campus location’ on http://www.physics.helsinki.fi/english/index.html.

You can also arrive by public transport, e.g. buses 75 and 73 or trams 6 and 8.

Academy Professor Markku Kulmala heads a research group consisting of physicists and other scientists. The group has made several scientific breakthroughs that have garnered much international attention. The findings of this research will promote our understanding of phenomena related to climate change, among other things. They can also be applied commercially in e.g. environmental technology.

RSVP by 22 May 2013 by email to Mai Allo, mai.allo@helsinki.fi or Tuukka Petäjä, tuukka.petäjä@helsinki.fi. You can also ring Mai Allo at 050 319 9584, or Tuukka Petäjä at 050 415 5278
