New webmail service for Department of Computer Science

A new webmail front-end "AfterLogic WebMail Lite" can now be used to access the mail services of the Department of Computer Science at

https://webmail.cs.helsinki.fi

WebMail Lite is fast and easy to use. It has a modern minimalistic interface which is combined with a rich feature set. The system makes you feel like working with a locally installed application. This is due to a feature called "cache prefetching", which basically means that data gets loaded asynchronously in the background already before it is required. You will usually not notice any lag in opening a message after having clicked on it. This is a major advantage compared to the old-fashioned webmail interfaces you might have gotten used to.

WebMail Lite has been built almost entirely with JavaScript/HTML5/CSS3. The user interface works fast in any modern browser with fallbacks to support even the elderly internet viewers. WebMail Lite us dual licensed, we use it with the open source GNU Affero GPL (AGPL) license. The locally modified source is available, as the AGPL license requires, at https://webmail.cs.helsinki.fi/source/.

WebMail Lite is available (with fairly complete traslations) in the following languages: English, Finnish, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Romanian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Hebrew, and Arabic. It has less complete translations in many other languages including Swedish, Estonian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

Some help may be found on the AfterLogic WebMail Lite Community Forum: http://www.afterlogic.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=21

In the future Webmail Lite will be the main supported webmail interface. RoundCube will not be updated and it will be phased out in the end of November 2014.
