Diligent students rewarded in Kumpula

The Faculty of Science handed out overall badges and served bubbly wine to students who had completed at least 55 credits last academic year.

Nearly 800 science students reached the 55-credit target last academic year. Out of the 800, 260 attended the red-carpet reception in the entrance hall of Physicum to receive their badges.

One of the premiered students is Senni Ryhtä, who is studying to be a maths teacher. She also assisted in the organisation of the Kumpula Science Campus 55 event.

Ryhtä says she completed 60 credits easily, because the teacher pedagogy courses have steered her towards completing all the courses at once.

- I think this kind of event is important, because the students can see that the faculty is interested in how we carry out our studies. I believe that this will motivate students who are close to that 55-credit target.
Based on ministerial funding model

One of the criteria for the funding model of the Ministry of Education and Culture is allocation based on how many undergraduates complete 55 credits per academic year. The target has also been included in the university’s strategy.

With the overall badges, the Faculty of Science wanted to congratulate its diligent students and shows its respect for them, says Anne Palo-Kauppi, director of student affairs.

- From now on, the badges will be handed out annually. We hope that many students will have a whole bunch of the on their overalls! says Palo-Kauppi.

Undergraduates at the Faculty of Science who have reached the 55-credit target, but who couldn’t attend the event, can fetch their badges from the faculty office on the second floor of Physicum, weekdays at 10-15.
