Student printing to become a paid service

All student printing will be subject to a charge starting from 1 January 2016. The change is due to the significant reduction in the funding of the University of Helsinki and the resulting need for cost-saving measures.

In conjunction with the change, Unigrafia, which is responsible for the university’s printing services and devices, will reduce the price of black-and-white printing to 6.4 cents per page. The price for colour printing will decrease to 22.4 cents per page. The prices apply to all printers and multi-function printers that are in shared use. The prices include VAT 24%.

The balance used for paying can be bought from the Unigrafia print shop at http://tulostus.unigrafia.fi/tulostussaldo and the Unigrafia express printing desk on the central campus (Vuorikatu 3).

As a result of this change, students will have access to hundreds of printers and multi-function printers with the same pre-paid balance and pricing.

The university’s administration is currently preparing a principle according to which studies will increasingly utilise digital materials instead of print-outs. When implemented, this principle will significantly reduce students’ printing needs.
