The UH Department of Computer Science is a world leader in algorithm and machine learning research and a key academic contributor to the success of Finnish industry in the telecom field.
Kumpula Science Campus, where the Department of Computer Science is located, is the largest centre of natural sciences in Nordic countries, with modern laboratories and classes highly equipped with the latest technology.
Why the Master's Degree Programme on Algorithms and Machine Learning?
Our research is at the highest international level, indicated e.g. by our Centre of Excellence on Algorithmic Data Analysis (Algodan). The Faculty includes Aapo Hyvärinen, Jyrki Kivinen, Veli Mäkinen, Petri Myllymäki, Juho Rousu, Hannu Toivonen, and Esko Ukkonen, known for their seminal work on string algorithms, data mining, independent component analysis, and machine learning.
Why the Master's Degree Programme on Networking and Services?
The department is renowned for the research and development on Linux, mobile Linux, and wireless communications. It is highly visible in international standardisation forums and organizations such as IETF, W3C, WWRF, and IFIP. Globally known research partners include Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Ericsson, and F-Secure. Research in interactive systems is a recent opening. The Faculty boasts a group of international experts including N. Asokan, Patrik Floréen, Giulio Jacucci, Jussi Kangasharju, Markku Kojo, Lea Kutvonen, and Sasu Tarkoma.
