All acquisitions of literature for the department, including those paid by externally funded projects, should be done through the channels of Kumpula Science Library whenever possible. This ensures that the literature is properly catalogued and special deals with book sellers are fully utilised.
The department appoints a contact person to coordinate activities with the Library. All literature acquisitions should be initiated by contacting the contact person. The contact person for the administrative period 2007–2009 is amanuensis Teija Kujala.
The department policy is to maintain a good coverage of literature in the fields relevant to the research and teaching at the department, and an adequate supply of text books for the courses being taught. Accordingly, all members of the staff are encouraged to make purchase proposals to the contact person. Students may also propose purchases, but it is preferred that they direct their proposals through, for example, the lecturer of the appropriate course.
Proposals can be short and informal. Including a link to a web page of the book is desirable.
