Library services

Library

Kumpula Science Library is in charge of library services for the department.

The University Press in Exactum sells handouts for the department.

There is an appointed library liaison at the department, who is also the department's representative in the steering committee of Kumpula Science Library. Similarly, there is an appointed librarian in charge of computer science at the library.

Library services

The library services have been described in the faculty quality manual and Chapter D.3. of the university's quality manual.

Acquisition of literature

The department policy is to maintain a good selection of literature in fields relevant to the research and teaching at the department. All members of the staff are encouraged to propose acquisitions of new literature whenever they perceive a need. Any books and journals needed at the department, including those paid by externally funded projects, are acquired in a centralised manner following the guidelines for acquisition of literature.

Departmental publication series

The library administers the department's series of publications:

  • A series: doctoral theses etc.
  • B series: annual reports, reports on teaching, publications of conferences organised by the department
  • C series: Pro gradu (Master's) theses and research reports, etc.

The publication of doctoral theses has been discussed in the instructions for PhD students. The department office will deliver approved Master's theses to the library. For other publications in department series, the author will contact the librarian in charge of computer science directly.
