PhD Studies
General
A great part of the PhD students belong to a graduate school. The graduate schools organise PhD courses, and offer some positions for full-time PhD researchers. The department participates in four PhD schools and a large network of research schools. The graduate schools have their own admission processes so please see the web page of the schools on how to apply. Note that a student can only belong to one school at a time. Some students may receive funding from the school, but most student will join the school with other funding (funding by the university or department, or external funding by working in a research project, company funding, or funding from other sources).
A student admitted to a graduate school must also always apply for admission to PhD studies as described on these pages.
The benefits of joining a graduate school include, e.g, the possibility to
- attend courses arranged by the graduate school
- attend summer schools or similar events by the graduate school
- apply for travel stipends if the graduate school has funds for such stipends
- attend other events, happenings, gettogethers arranged by the graduate school
The obligations include regular reporting by the student on his or her progress in the studies to the graduate school.
