Reinstatement of the right of study

Postgraduate students are removed from the University’s student register, if they do not register as attending or non-attending students by 31 August of each academic year (Universities Decree No. 115/1998 and Rector’s Decision No. 012/2008). If this happens to you and you want to register as an attending or non-attending student before 31 December of the same year, you have to pay the re-enrolment fee of 35 euros and show the receipt of the payment at one of the Student Affairs offices. Please see Enrolment of postgraduate students for details.

If you wish to continue your PhD studies at a later date, you have to apply for readmission. In such a case, do the following:

  1. Fill in the form for an application for re-enrolment  (available on the Faculty page).
  2. Update your research plan and discuss it with your supervisor (see model research plan under How to apply).
  3. State clearly in the research plan for how long your studies will take.
  4. Sign yourself the study plan.
  5. Have your supervisor sign the research plan.
  6. Return the application form and the research plan to the PhD committee (via the Research Coordinator), both on paper and by email to researchcoordinator@cs.helsinki.fi.

Forms are also available here, if you cannot access the university intranet.

Your application will be either accepted, rejected or returned for further improvements by the PhD committee.

Note that in addition for submitting the application, you also have to pay the the re-enrolment fee of 35 euros.
