CompGenome Research Group

We aim at developing models and algorithms that can be used to answer several interesting biological questions. CompGenome may be read as Comparative Genomics by biologists or Computational Genomics by computer scientists.

Organization

CompGenome research group works for the CompGenome project, which is part of the SYSBIO program of the Academy of Finland (years 2004 - 2007). Our group is just a subset of all the people (mainly computer scientists and genetisists) who are directly and indirectly associated with the CompGenome project. In particular, this group includes only computer scientists whose affiliation is at the Basic Research Unit of Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (BRU/HIIT):
  • Heikki Mannila (PhD, Principal investigator, coordinator of the CompGenome project)
  • Aristides Gionis (PhD, Senior research scientist)
  • Mikko Koivisto (PhD, Researcher, project manager)
  • Jaana Heino (MD, PhD student)
  • Niina Haiminen (PhD student)
  • Jussi Kollin (PhD student)
