About the project

I wrote my master's thesis during a period of over one year, finally completing the work in April 2006. The thesis is about group artificial intelligence in computer games: that is, how the monsters in an average action game should behave. The main idea of the thesis is in using game theoretic techniques not to achieve maximum performance but to achieve maximum immersion for the human player. The thesis ponders this approach, its benefits and drawbacks.

About the site

The overview page contains some background for artificial intelligence design in computer games and a brief overview on using the game theoretic methods for enhancing the gameplay experience. The download page contains the deliverables, namely the thesis (in Finnish) and a seven-page conference paper (in English).
