FusionFox: Utilizing BitTorrent for Web-Based Video on Demand Petri Savolainen Web-based Video-on-Demand services such as YouTube have become increasingly popular. Most current implementations are, however, based on a client-server model, which means that the need for server bandwidth increases as the service gains more users. FusionFox is a web browser extension that makes it possible to create YouTube-like web sites on which the videos are streamed using the BitTorrent protocol. A windowed piece selection algorithm is used in order to enable the videos to be viewed as they download. This presentation aims to describe the design and implementation of FusionFox and present the ongoing scientific work related to combining BitTorrent and Video-on-Demand.
