Oops/Crash with 2.4.17 and 2.4.18 kernels

Kernel versions 2.4.17 and 2.4.18 crash on an Asus CUV4X-D with 1024 mb
of ram under heavy file i/o.

[2] Full description of the problem/report:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Under conditions involving a lot of file i/o, I experience a kernel
crash with both the 2.4.17 and 2.4.18 kernels. Oops messages seem to
all occur in the same place (the function get_hash_table). I believe
that the crash is somehow tied to in-memory caching of files on disk.
Included is a script that triggers the crash about 90% of the time.
I believe that I have experienced this crash both with 1 *and* 2
processors in the machine, although the crash seems to occur more
frequently with two processors in the machine.

To give a little more information on my hardware settup, here is
what is in my machine:

Asus CUV4X-D motherboard
2 x Pentium III 1.0 ghz processors
1024 Mb ram (4x256mb)
IBM Deskstar 40gb ata100 disk
Radeon QD AGP card
Realtek 8139 pci NIC
