smbfs and lfs (2.4.20)

today lost some files (moving from samba share -> linux) :(
after some searches on the net i found there is no lfs support for smbfs

is there a reason for this ?
and: is there a patch for 2.4.20 (i only found an old patch for 2.4.16)
