hi -- i've done some more debugging on this and i've discovered i can get
this system to boot (with working keyboard and mouse) if i add
"i8042_nomux" to the kernel args. this at least seems like a workaround,
but this system works fine in 2.4 so it seems something is wrong in 2.5.
