You need to apply the patch from Documentation/networking/ppp.txt in the
source tree to your 2.2.0[fg] sources, and recompile, IIRC. I also had
trouble compiling after this and had to comment out parts of the source to
get it working. I suspect upgrading to one of the newer developmental
verisons of PPP may provide a 'neater' fix.
