Using knfsd

I'd like to use knfsd rather than the user space nfsd, but I can't compile
the tools that are mentioned in Configure.help (and don't seem to have been
updated for quite a while). Am I going about this completely wrong? I'm
compiling on a Debian linux box running libc6.
