vim doesn't work

I'm working on a small linux system that I just started up and it's got IMO one major
problem ... vim doesn't work.  When I try to run it, it says that it cannot load
library 'libSM.so.6'.  I was wondering if there was a patch containing that file that I
could add to the 2.0.30 kernel that it is running.
