I switched to 2.7.2 with around 2.1.105. I still regularly use a pgcc
compiled kernel, but I know what breaks and what doesn't, and I know where
to find 2.7.2.

No, there are two amd options, one is -mamdk6, which is the old one found
in the releases, and -mk6, found in the snapshots.
Thats mostly a rename, the amdk6 support is the snapshots isn't more
experimental than in the releases.
In any case, both the kernel and the compiler have obvious problems with
each other, and, while the pgcc/egcs releases are quiet and might generate
broken code, the snapshots complain loudly.
