My Dell Latitude CPi 300XT suffers the same problem with 2.3.14,
but anything up to and including 2.3.13 is okay.

Before rebuilding the kernel with latest gcc and binutils (2.95.1
and 2.9.5.0.8) the disk LED would stay lit and I had to power down
the laptop; after the rebuild I can Alt-SysRq and it seems to be
stuck looping with only init, kpiod, kflushd and kapmd running
(perhaps another kernel thread ? I'm unsure right now...)

EIPs show a loop values not only of 0010 but also of 0023, I can be
more specific if anyone is willing to investigate.

Note, the IDE CD-ROM detection isn't yet reliable if I remove the
append="hdc=cdrom hdd=none" line in /etc/lilo.conf (so it's still in).

Thanks in advance,
