BeOS has that ability to bypass the cache, which lead to extremely smooth
playback of 3 QuickTime movies while still being able to load applications fairly
well.

It's definitely quite a bit slow for certain cases and I'm unsure if that
has to do with initial mapping of shared libraries loading or not. It
still spawns applications with some slowness, but nothing like what you
described.

Yeah, this isn't a formal test of system, but just my experience right now.

If you or somebody else has got a "bash/Posix" based test, then I'll run it on
my box and report the result to you or whom ever is interested.

That might help in pushing for a particular feature to be put into the kernel.
