linux-2.3.34 to .36pre1 crash more often on X server exits

I have a machine that has an Intel motherboard using the 440GX
chipset and a 550MHz Pentium III processor with 512MB of PC-100 memory
and a 3D Rage Pro AGP ("1X/2X") video card. This machine locks up about
every tenth time I exit the X server or switch virtual consoles to or from
the X server. I believe that this may be due to some hardware quirk,
but, for what it's worth, in case anyone else has been noticing a similar
phenomenon, I want to report that with linux 2.3.34, 2.3.35 and 2.3.36pre1,
exiting the X server causes the machine to do a hardware reset every
time I do it. Perhaps none of this is Linux's fault, but I thought I
should report it in case this data point is useful to anyone else
experiencing the problem who is trying to narrow it down.
