I've been having a problem for quite some time since I upgraded to PCI
NIC's with my SMP box. The card autoprobes fine, routing tables are
correct, kernel and driver sources are newest available and still the
NIC will not respond. I can ping localhost and local ip successfully, but
nothing outside including the gateway responds.
I've recompiled the kernel and got it working briefly with the 3com
card under Caldera 2.3 running a UMP 2.2.5 kernel. Yuck.
While I'm no hardware expert, I'm no fool either. Please help me better
debug this problem or otherwise keep from booting into FreeBSD and
Windows! A description of my tested system:
Software:
Slackware 7.0/Caldera 2.3/Redhat 6.0/Redhat 6.1/Mandrake 6.0
Kernels 2.2.5, 2.2.10 2.2.11, 2.2.12, 2.2.13 (UMP and SMP configurations)
Most recent Tulip and 3x59x drivers tested as both modules and in kernel
Hardware:
Tyan Titan 1668 dual PPro motherboard
(2) PPro 200 w/512k cache
(1) 3Com 3c595 PCI NIC -or-
(1) Netgear FA-310TX PCI NIC (Tulip chip)
IDE drives, PCI matrox video, isa sound blaster
Cheers!
