wierd problem with riva 128

With Linux 2.2.13 XFree and restorefont/restorepalette/setfont/etc
correctly detects that my card has 4096 KB of memory and work fine.
With 2.2.14 they all think my card has 8192 and X locks up my screen.

I'm running Slackware 7, egcs 1.1.2, K6-350/MVP3, Riva 128.
