The changes for kernel versions 2.3.43 and up are already made in the
i4l CVS, but perhaps Karsten Keil who maintains the list didn't found
the time to send a patch.
I will CC this message to Karsten. 
If you need quick help you would be able to fetch the update from the
CVS.
