pre6 won't compile if CONFIG_NFS_FS is set and CONFIG_SYSCTL isn't. In
that case nothing will define nfs_debug, nlm_debug etc. It also looks
like NFS compilation with the various compile time debug switches like
RPC_DEBUG (in <linux/sunrpc/debug.h) disabled is broken.
