Console blanking problem with X11 + 2.4.x

Does anyone know of a fix or perhaps a 2.4.x test kernel or pre patch
that dosent screw your console up while you're running X11? I can't even
read the console after I shut x down or try and switch while it's
running, I have to type 'reset'
