That found the problem:

open("/usr/src/linux/Documentation/Configure.help", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
write(2, "cmlcompile: I/O error, file \"ker"..., 47cmlcompile: I/O error, file
"kernel-rules.cml"
