Stefan Schönauer

Who are you and what do you do here?
- I am Stefan Schönauer, a postdoc in Heikki Mannila's group doing research in data mining.

What is you background, how did you end up here?
- I did my Master's and Doctoral degrees in the University of Munich 's (No, not the Technical University ) Database group. My PhD was about similarity search in (semi-)structured data. Then I went to IBM's research lab in California , where I worked on query processing in radio frequency   identification databases. After two years in industry I wanted to move back to the academia, so I contacted Heikki.

Everybody should know I...

- am Bavarian. Everyone is welcome to find out what this really means.

In addition to work, my hobbies include...

- Going fishing and hiking, and generally hanging out with friends, having a good time.

Nuutti Varis

Kuka olet ja mitä täällä teet?

-  Nuutti Varis, olen osa ABI-projektia jota vetää Jukka Manner.

Miten päädyit tänne, mikä on taustasi?

Xiang Gan

Who are you and what do you do here?

- I am Xiang, I started as a research assistant in April. I work in Kimmo Raatikainen's project which studies application migration from one computer to another.

What is you background, how did you end up here?

- I come from China , Jiangsu province. I came to the Department to do my Master's thesis in Software Engineering in 2005. In China I took many courses in Linux and found out it was invented here. So I thought it would be an opportunity to study here. My Master's degree is about improving reliability measurement in software and it is about half-way.

Jukka Manner and Esko Ukkonen gave good replies which convinced me to come here.
