TITLE: Comments on QoS in ODP work SOURCE: Finland STATUS: For discussion in the Helsinki meeting in July 1997 -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The final answer to QoS in ODP question suggests that the ODP computational model should be refined. The suggested refinement is not the only possibility -- we suggest a different refinement: QoS agreements and resources can be included as interaction properties, instead of separate computational objects. The benefit of our suggestion is that the modification operations become (computation vp.) local. In addition, general patterns can be created for contract management and resource management problems. Issues of rationale: - The binding framework already includes contracts. One aspect of these contracts are QoS agreements. - The RM-ODP binding model induces two level of bindings: computational bindings and engineering bindings. - Contracts are computational binding properties, instead of a computational binding object. - At the engineering level the properties are realised as a distributed object. - The engineering object representing the contract may have interfaces for changing properties. The object relates to an association introduced in WD14752, a liaison in IS10746-3, a binding in WD10917, and a QoS agreement in NP on QoS in ODP.
