Russian High Performance R&E telecommunication infrastructure

Professor Valerii A. Vasenin, Center for Telecommunications and Internet Technologies, Lomonosov Moscow State University

The talk will describe current position and perspectives of development of the Russian Internet segment. Specific topics include:
  • national R&E networking infrastructure;
  • high performance R&E networks development in recent years and directions of research conducted on them;
  • inter-agency program "Creation of the National Computer Network for Science and Higher Education".
The presented information is based on research of Moscow State University Center for Telecommunications and Internet Technologies.

A distributed CORBA-based network monitoring system

Professor Serguei Afonin, Center for Telecommunications and Internet Technologies, Lomonosov Moscow State University

The talk discusses a project for building a scalable network management system. Taking into account the unique level of variability of tasks that appears in the MSUnet network, existing network management systems are of little use due to their insufficient flexibility. Therefore the principal feature of the system discussed is fully distributed modular design. The system kernel operations are limited to data flow coordination and module's control function dispatching. All the component's interactions are based on CORBA architecture, that allows to minimise the expenses for integrating into the system the new ones. The project is planned to include in statistics processing functionality. This will allow the network development planning based on the traffic statistics analysis. Results of the on-going analysis are rather successful.
