Course Organization
This course starts from the needs that led to Component-Based
Development, visits briefly the evolution of software development and
then focuses on the essentials of CBD. To consolidate the CBD theory, a
number of widely used component models are presented followed by a
detailed example of their use. After that, a series of exercises guide
the students in a step-wise application of the theory and the
principles they have been taught so far. A summary of the course
organization is given in the following list.
The Evolution of Software Development
- Client/Server, N-tier, Service-oriented solutions.
- From procedures to modules, to objects, to components: the
endless quest for software reuse.
CBD Fundamentals
- Components & Objects, Components & Distributed Systems,
Elements of Components.
- Component Interfaces, Component Architectures, Component
Specification, CBD Lifecycle.
CBD Insights
- Services, Packaging Services, Assembling Components.
- Component Infrastructure, Middleware for Component-Based
Software, Framework Support for CBD.
Component Models
- The CORBA Component Model.
- Enterprise JavaBeans.
- Web services.
Detailed Example of CBD Modeling
- Component Architecture Design.
- Component Development
Exercises
