Sini's Stats

    • Location: Helsinki, Finland
  2. School
    • What? Computer Science, MSc, working on PhD.
    • Where? University of Helsinki.
    • Why? Nature calls.
  3. Physical
    • Hair: Long.
    • Eyes: Two, in head.
    • Height: Enough.
    • Weight: Depends, what planet are you from?
    • Reaction to photons: My what?
  4. Tech
    • Boxes: kurppa. AMD inside.
    • OS: Ubuntu, a nice Linux for normal people.
    • Support: Given (and taken) in Linux. Ask away. Regular answerer for my own dumb questions wanted. ;)
    • IRC: Stressful. I occasionally show up as Byakushin on ircnet.
    • Insta-Mess: ICQ in use seldom. 8059280.
    • MUD: ancient.anguish.org port 2222, Fir, Otter, and various tree-named alts.
    • Graphical Net-thing x: Sorry, don't do 'em.
    • Web Design: I don't do that either. I read Alertbox, feel ashamed for myself and slowly improve. Or something. I just wish some service providers read the thing too.
    • Coding: Servicable skills in Java and LPC (LP as in LPMUD), basic survival skills in python (and bash scripting). I don't much enjoy coding yet, my bafflement quotient is too high.
    • GnuPG public key: Ask your local keyserver (search for my firstname.lastname@iki.fi -address, which you'll have to fill in yourself), or look here. Feel free to encrypt and/or sign mail to me.
  1. Leisure
    • Books: Lots. Fantasy, scifi and "generally educative" books mostly.
      • Adams: Oi, my idol.
      • Asimov: Robots and foundations. Mmm.
      • Card: Ender & Alvin are splendid.
      • Clarke: Rama decent. Depressing women.
      • Eddings: Nice attitude; Pol is great.
      • Feist & Wurts:
Empire I loved. Rest of Kelewan was nice.
        Recommend Feist's Faerie Tale.
      • Gaiman: Sandman rocks, the rest decent.
      • Pratchett: Repeats himself, but wittily.
      • The two combined: Buy me Good Omens!
      • LeGuin: Read the Earthsea Quartet.
      • Salvatore: Drizzt is an entertaining brain relaxant, although either the quality seems to go down or I'm growing out of it.
      • Tolkien: Intake as movies preferred.
      • Weis, Hickman & co:
Dragonlance is fun, but needs its gods.
Death Gate Cycle is just plain great.
      • ...and many more, of course.
    • Movies: Another bunch. Anime, much fantasy and scifi. I'm sold to special effects and have no artistic view, but... LOTR beats Star Wars! *duck*
    • Music: Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls is the thing. No, seriously, movie music, celticish, some classical, silly and vocal/"choir" music (from Semmarit to Ultra Bra to Weird Al and friends) do the thing. I prefer it served not too loud. Oh, and I play the piano, but don't tell anyone.
    • High Culture (TM): I'm not too civilized, but some theatre and the occasional opera are all good for the soul.
    • Playing Roles: I've been an afternoon-LARPer and tried table-RPGing, but don't have time for LARPs and believe that all that dice-throwing is best dealt with by a computer. ;)
