Introduction to Programming, Autumn 2009:
How To -- Info for foreign students

The course is compulsory course on the Basic Studies of Computer Science, and is worth 5 cr. The course will teach the basic principles of programming, using Java as the programming language. Usually, students immediately follow up this course with the Advanced Course in Programming, 4 cr.

The Lectures: The lectures are only in Finnish! The first lecture is on Monday September 7th in B123. After that the lectures are on Mondays 12-14 and Thursdays 14-17 at the Auditorium A111 of the Exactum. If you wish to learn to listen Finnish language, you are of course welcome to the lectures! ;-)

Foreign students may read the book Cay Horstmann Gary Cornell: Core Java 2TM, Volume I--Fundamentals, 7/E, Prentice Hall 2004. (In the authors' page there is more info of the book.) There is a reading list in page http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/Ohjelmointi/Perusteet/syksy09/Exercises/.

A weekly teaching group for foreign students will meet every Friday September 4 - October 16, at 08:15 - 09:45, in room C220. The teacher is Henning Lübbers.

The examination is on Wednesday, October 21 at 9:00-12 in A111.

The maximum points in the examination are 50. You must get at least 25 examination points to pass the course!

Grades for foreign students are determined as follows: Your examination points are multiplied by 6/5 and then the resulting points give:
