Geoffrey Cox Fri, 7 Jan 2000 20:52:26 -0500 ------------ Out of Boston MA, I'm a middle aged anglophile selling spectrometers to academics for a living (non-musical instrument sales / mktg. ain't what it used to be) ; I work out of a home office so as to allow 'lunch-time' practice sessions unhindered without persecution from friends, family and neighbors. After decades of denying a fondness for the lute, and following some disastrous career / personal derailments, I finally gave in 2 years ago. With occasional professional tutorial, I play / study an hour or so most days when I'm not traveling (sometimes even when I travel); I find it keeps me sane. In parallel I've studied lute design and building technique, and with the lute-net, lute builders list and other modern resources have managed thus far to successfully construct an accurate 8c Ren lute to ~70% completed state. From time to time I also make historically accurate recorders. Upon discovering the lute nets, lute societies etc., I'm pleased to know of many others out there with this uncommon interest as well as having found motivating mentors to encourage me. Cheers, Geoff ----------------------------------------------- An Update in Sat, 15 Jan 2000 13:27:19 -0500 There seems to be a strong corelation of interests; lute interest with either, history and the arts of period, or science etc. ...as an early responder to the lutelist bios, I kept my input minimal; in addition, subsequently I wish to mention a long standing interest and involvement. I'd like to know of any others on this list who might also share in this interest. Since High School (some 20+ years) I've been actively involved with comprehensively restoring and in some cases replicating17th and 18th C. english clocks. Strangely enough as availability of such items either became exhausted or out of financial reach, these activities have subsided, lute-ing has all but replaced it ( I still find time for the right project!).
