Carl Donsbach Tue, 21 Dec 2004 19:57:17 ------------- Born in Austin Texas, U.S., in 1954, I now live in Albuquerque New Mexico, and work as a computer tech. at the library on the campus of the University of New Mexico. In 1986 I received my undergraduate degree in Guitar Performance from the University of New Mexico, and later went back for a Master's degree in Music Theory and Composition, but decided that I don't fit in with the academic world. I did at one point, have a regular gig at a small French restaurant, but made so much more money waiting tables that I finally just dropped it. I now compose and work my day job. My interest in the lute came out of studying the guitar. I became fascinated with early music and began to study the lute. While studying for my master's degree I joined the Early Music Ensemble at UNM and began playing viols. I now play viols, mostly treble, with a small group on a fairly regular basis. I own a 10 course Railich copy and have constructed my own 13 course baroque instrument, thanks to one of David van Edwards's internet lute making courses. Carl Donsbach
