Dana Emery Sat, 8 Jan 2000 08:16:32 -0500 ---------- semiretired programmer (no degree...); JOAT. Current day job is a driver/shop helper in a medium sized sheet metal shop. I have journeyman skills as a cabinetmaker, piano technician, and general experience doing mechanical, assembly, and electrical work. Living on the eastern end of Long Island in a decidedly rural area which has minimal early music activity. Luckily the Society for Creative Anachronism is active out here, so I get to play at monthly events. I am a member of an amateur loud band ensemble, in which I play tenor shawm, and will be playing either sacbut or bass dulcian when I get one of those two built. I play lute, ren winds, and sing. I practice at whim, sometimes not at all, sometimes a couple of hours. Mostly to absorb new repetoire, or prepare myself for a voluntary dance band gig, rarely for technique; not that I have a perfect technique mind you, I dont even come close. Mostly when I practice it is to indulge some humor that I have gotten into, often a touch of melancholy.
