Edward Martin Fri, 07 Jan 2000 22:00:32 -0600 ------------- I am a 50 year old male, residing in Duluth, Minnesota - the frozen climate. I am married, 2 teenage daughters, and I have 2 professions: 1. Registered nurse, doing skilled home care. This is to support my family. 2. Professional lutenist , teaching at the College of St. Scholastica, and performing solo lute, lute songs, I am a member of MiLQ [Minnesota Lute Quartet], and do other ensemble work. I have played lute for about 22 years [began with guitar at age 6], and I do it all, with the exception of theorbo. The lute is certainly more rewarding than health care. I have a few renaissance lutes, archlute, vihuela, baroque guitar, 11 course, & 13 course lutes. My favorite repertoire is the German baroque, especially Weiss & Bach. The challenges are immense in this era, but the rewards are extraordinary. With a relatively newly obtained 11 course, I am more exploring the French & Bohemian baroque repertoire. I have had performances broadcast on American Public Radio, have recorded, toured, performed in competitions, & taught master classes as well. I absolutely love the beautiful music of the lute, and find it rewarding to continue to learn & develop musicality, and especially find it fulfilling to share and learn insight and knowledge with others on subject of the lute. A special area of interest of mine is strings.... how the use of different materials changes the concept of performance.
