Phillip Rukavina studied lute with Patrick O'Brien at the Sarah Lawrence College, New York and with Hopkinson Smith at the Academie Musicale in Villecroze, France and in Basel, Switzerland, the latter through a grant from the Jerome Foundation (1998). With the ensemble Minstrelsy!, he appears on three critically acclaimed compact discs issued on Lyrichord Disc's Early Music Series label. A frequent soloist and ensemble player, Phillip has performed numerous times with Ex Machina Baroque Opera Company, the Lyra Concert Baroque Orchestra, the Rose Ensemble for Early Music, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and many others. He supplied the solo lute music for the audiotape release of The Last Unicorn, read by the author Peter Beagle. Mr. Rukavina is currently the Director of the St. Paul Early Music Series, which is sponsored by The Schubert Club of St. Paul. He has served on the Board of the Lute Society of America and was the general editor of the LSA's Quarterly magazine from 1992 until 1995.
