Here are embedded some "music videos", mainly quite old and found, when I
trasformed my old videos to digital format. All of the videos are
just unedited and unpolished "direct shots". The long video in
Google Video is not embedded.
3 pieces by Robert Ballard: Entree de Luth, Courante, Branles de
village I & II
This my practicing for a recording project already in 1992. The lute is
model "Andreas Berr, Vienna, 1699", made by Stephen Barber, 1986.
4 pieces by Adrian Le Roy: Passemeze, Passe velours, La Souris,
Branle de Poictou
This my practicing for a recording project already in 1992. The lute is
model "Andreas Berr, Vienna, 1699", made by Stephen Barber, 1986.
Actually for Le Roy 6 course lute would have been more appropriate... ;-)
Dalza et F. da Milano
I play Pavana alla Venetiana by Joanambrosio Dalza and
Ricercar (Fantasia) by Francesco da Milano
in a small concert, June 1995. The lute is model "Magno dieffopruchar,
Venice, c. 1550" by Stephen Barber, 1985.
Banchieri: Barca di Venetia per Padova (In Google
Video,
not embedded here.)
This staged version of Adriano Banchieri's Barca di Venetia per Padova
was performed by ensemble Köyhät Ritarit (Poor Knights) in the
Ritarihuone (old House of Finnish Nobility) in spring 2000. Nearly all
of the pieces are included - the length of the video is little less than
30 minutes. The short speeches between the pieces are in Finnish, but
songs are of course in Italian. The archlute Arto Wikla is playing is
made by Stephen Barber 1987.
Six Sarmaticae
Arto Wikla plays six short Sarmaticae, numbers 35, 63, 91,40,53 and 81.
They are lute arrangements of Ukranian folk songs, made by Roman
Turovsky, see his page www.torban.org/sarmaticae/ . My playing is just a
"direct shot", not polished at all. Recorded 2005. Roman considered the
first 3 being too fast, that is why the last 3 are slower. The lute is
model "Magno dieffopruchar, Venice, c. 1550" by Stephen Barber, 1985.
Antidotum Tarantulae by Athanasius Kircher
Arto Wikla plays "Antidotum Tarantulae" by Athanasius Kircher, 1641.
This low quality webcam video is a "direct shot", April 2008, of my own
lute intabulation of the pieece. You'll find the tab in my page
http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/mus/Tarantella/ The lute is model "Andreas
Berr, Vienna, 1699", made by Stephen Barber, 1986. At the end of the
video there is also our dog... And he is the main reason for publishing
this video: his timing is perfect! :-)
Tarantella "Tre modi di Kircher"
Arto Wikla plays Tarantella in "primus, secundus et tertius modus" by
Athanasius Kircher, 1641. Recorded in April 2008. The lute intabulation
is mine and can be found in my page
http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/mus/Tarantella/
The soprano lute is made after model "Wendelio Venere", Vienna, c.1580,
by Timo Kontio, 1997.
Dowland: Flow my teares
This video is only an unpolished version, just to show my intabulation
in practice. The video is made in 3 parts because of the limitations of
my old Ixus 40 camera...
The lute intabulation can be found in my page
