Bio

Aaron Yi DING is a PhD candidate at University of Helsinki, supervised by Professor Sasu Tarkoma (UH) and Senior Researcher Markku Kojo (UH), with Professor Jon Crowcroft (Cambridge FRS) being his external PhD advisor. He received MSc degree with distinction 5/5 in Computer Science from University of Helsinki (2009) and studied at University of Cambridge (2009) under the scholarship for prospective PhD candidate at University of Helsinki. Aaron has made research visits to University of Cambridge (2013), Deutsche Telekom Labs in Berlin (2012) and University of Padova in Italy (2008). From 2007, he has been employed to work on international R&D projects with Nokia, NSN, Ericsson, and TeliaSonera with 7+ years of experience. During the PhD research, he works closely with Dr. Jouni Korhonen from Broadcom, Sr. Teemu Savolainen from Nokia, Prof. Pan Hui from Deutsche Telekom Labs / HKUST, Dr. Bo Han from AT&T Research USA, and Sr. Zhen Cao from China Mobile / Peking University. Aaron's PhD research is funded by the Academy of Finland and Nokia Foundation.

Besides research work, Aaron is associated with Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and Internet Society (ISOC), active in the Internet (INT) and Transport (TSV) areas. He is an IETF committee member of the IAB/IESG NomCom 2012-2013, responsible for nominating and promoting the IETF leadership. He serves for the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers (FUURT) since 2012 on the advisory board for international researchers in Finland. He has also served in the organizing committee for the international conference Pervasive 2010. In the Computer Science Department at the University of Helsinki, Aaron is running the CS International Blog and chairing the Well-being Group for the international staff. As a member of ACM and IEEE, he serves on the Executive Committee of IEEE Finland and has been awarded ACM conference grants in 2011, 2012 and 2013 (SenSys, CoNEXT, EuroSys, Middleware).
