Spanish visitor at the Department
Hei !!!
I'm Ana Bartolomé and come from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain. I´m working as IT support for the Department of Computer Systems and Programming at the Computer Science Faculty. I’m very pleased to be accepted in the University of Helsinki as it is a great opportunity for me to obtain a personal experience in a similar department. This is thanks to the host institution and the Staff Training Mobility that encourage short stays in institutions of the European countries that participant in the program with training purposes.
I consider this staff training mobility an opportunity to improve my capacity of communication with persons of other nationalities and to extend my knowledge in the different technologies used in the destination University. So I wrote Esko Ukkonen (Head of the department of Computer Science) who reply me very quickly and gave me a warm welcome.
So these days in the University have been very interesting. The first day I met some of the members of the IT group in the Computer Science Department, Petri Kutvonen (IT Manager) showed me the facilities of the faculty and explain me the general working. The second day, I met with Pekka Niklander (IT Specialist) who tougth me his work at his office and I was with him and his workmates in an English meeting where they put in common everyday incidences. Next day I met with Pasi Vettenranta (IT Specialist) who taught me software installations in all the Computer classes and the remote tools to make this possible. The following day Sami Palhomaa (IT Specialist) showed me the IT Central Services facilities and the videoconference room where we called some of theirs workmates in other Campus. And In my last day with Thomas Vikberg (IT Designer) he explained me how it works the web pages in the University, particularly in the department and how to publish this short review in the web page. So a very good planning and organization in a short period of time. It´s more than I expected.
From my point of view I suppose that the way of working is quite similar more or less because we have the same necessities, but maybe we have different organization.
